Saturday's Seventh Day Adventists Church 06-11-16

Hello and happy Saturday.  I was near Florence, SC yesterday driving along and thinking about what kind of church I would post this weekend.  I felt as though I needed/wanted a different kind of chuch this weekend.  Low and behold I found it - a Seventh Day Adventist Church!   You are seeing this church on Saturday because Seventh Day Adventists believe that the Sabbath is Saturday.  I guess that makes sense because our modern day calendar shows Sunday as the first day of the week and Saturday as the 7th day.  If you'd like to learn more about Seventh Day Adventists, their history, beliefs, etc... check out their website:  https://www.adventist.org/en/information/.

I hope you're having a sensational Saturday.  Thank you for looking.  See you tomorrow.

Sunday at The Refuge At First Baptist Church in Florida 03-06-16

Hello and happy Sunday.  Today we go to The Refuge At First Baptist Church in Reddick, Florida.  The Refuge was established in 1880. It's a wonderful looking church that sits on a corner and tries to make the best of every side.  I haven't been able to find any information about this church online, but it is a beauty to see.  It's somewhat eclectic with the shape and the windows, and you just gotta love the red door, too.

I hope you had a wonderful Sunday.  Thank you for looking.  See you tomorrow.

Sunday at Locust Presbyterian Church 02-14-16

Hello and happy Sunday.  Also, happy Valentine's Day.  I drove by Locust Presbyterian Church tonight in Locust, NC and just had to stop and photograph it.  Photographing at night is different and I'm afraid if you zoom in you  might see some graininess - so please, don't zoom.  There were a lot of people attending tonight and the church really looked alive.  Since this church usually doesn't do Sunday night services I check their website and found that there is a Valentines Concert happening.  I'm glad they had a good crowd showing the love.  If you'd like to find out more about this church, go to http://www.locustpresbyterian.org/. I'm sure they'd like to see you if you're so inclined.

I hope you had a love filled Sunday's Valentine's Day.  Thanks for looking.  See you tomorrow.

Sunday's at Troy Presbyterian Church 01-31-16

Hello and happy Sunday.  Today I bring to you the Troy Presbyterian Church in Troy, North Carolina.  It is on Main Street in Troy.  In 2014, this particular church changed their governing body from the PCUSA (Presbyterian Chuch United States of America) to the EPC (Evangelical Presbyterian Church).  There's an article from The Montgomery Herald from August 14, 2014 that you can read as to why the church changed governing bodies at http://www.montgomeryherald.com/news/article_936cd74c-22f1-11e4-97a5-0019bb2963f4.html.
Worship services are at 11:00 a.m. on Sundays at 202 Main Street, Troy, NC if you're interested.

I hope you had a wonderful Sunday.  Thank you for looking.  See you tomorrow.

Sunday's Church 01-24-16

Hello and happy Sunday.  We're going back to church this Sunday, this time in Candor, North Carolina.  The church you see is the Macedonia Presbyterian Church on the Troy-Candor Road.
Once again I could find no information about this church with a search of the internet.  I guess from now on I will have to plan ahead and telephone the church leader and get information.  Wish me luck.

What I did find, maybe, is that Macedonia is/was a country to the north of Greece.  I say maybe because it seems there's a lot of debate going on as to whether or not Macedonia was considered a part of Greece during Biblical times.  Macedonia is the first place in Europe where Paul preached the Gospel.  According to the Book of Acts, Paul went to Macedonia because he had a vision of a man from there asking for help.

As for the formation of the Presbyterian Church, a 16th Century Reformer named John Calvin was instrumental.  His theology went mostly along the lines of Martin Luther, but differed in that Calvin believed in predestination and eternal security.

Whatever you believe, I hope you had a most sensational Sunday.  Thank you for looking.  See you tomorrow.

Sunday Sun 01-10-16

Hello and happy Sunday.  "Peek-A-Boo", says the sun.  I say, "Whooooooohoooooo.  Sunday with the sun.  Come on out and play!"  And so, the sun made a much wanted appearance today to brighten everyone's mood.  This is a "church" to me.  Being in nature is the closest I can get to God as I see things.

I have a quote that may help.  Roy Rolfe Gilson says, "Keep your faith in all beautiful things.  In the sun when it is hidden.  In the spring when it is gone."  Roy Rolfe Gilson was an author whose works include In the Morning Glow and Miss Primrose.  He lived from 1875 to 1933.  Sometimes I find it comforting that people believed the same as I and lived so long ago.  Have faith.  Believe.  Love nature.

I hope you had a wonderfully sunny Sunday.  Thank you for looking.  See you tomorrow.

Sunday Serenity 11-01-15

Hello and happy Sunday. Ahh, serenity.  What is serenity?  According to Dictionary.com, it is a noun meaning "the state of being serene, calm, or tranquil...".  The word serene is an adjective meaning "calm, peaceful, tranquil; unruffled".  I see all of that in this scene.  My friend is enjoying a relaxing time on the river with nothing more than her kayak, a little fishing gear, and her thoughts, unencumbered by the noise of a busy world.  Out here, there is peace and quiet; the kind that rejuvenates the body and spirit.  This is the kind of day that is my Sunday; my church, if you will.  This is what I dream of on those many busy days when I can't be on the river.  This is what keeps me sane. This IS my Sunday.  The good thing is, I don't need to wait for an actual Sunday to have this kind of day.  My Sunday can come any time of the week.  And, if I had my choice, I would have more than one "Sunday" in a week.  I can't, of course.  Some weeks I don't get a "Sunday".  But, I can always have a partial Sunday in my mind.  Enjoying the visualization might not be the same, but some days it's all I have.

How about you?  Where is your serenity?  I'll bet it's beautiful.

I hope you had a serene Sunday.  Thank you for looking.  See you tomorrow.

Anglican Church Sunday

Happy Sunday.  For those who attend church, I found one for you.  This is St. John's Parrish Anglican Church in St. John's Island, SC.    I don't know much about an Anglican church except that it is a Reformation church.  I wasn't able to find any information about this particular church.  I just liked it because it's so pretty.  And, at this time, a strong ray of sun hit the chuch with the dark clouds behind it.

I hope you had a wonderful Sunday!  Thanks for looking,  See you tomorrow,

Sunday Peace and Blessings

Copyright AJ Horton 2015

Happy Sunday.  People do a lot of things on Sunday; they visit; they play; sometimes they mow the grass; sometimes work; and they go to church.   My favorite church is the great outdoors!!  I go there several times a week, with or without people and I always have a wonderfully uplifting experience. On this particular occasion we were at Pawleys Island, SC - on the beach of course, enjoying the sunset when I was blessed with this scene.  This is one of the reasons I like my version of "church".  This church is where I feel much peace and many blessings.  I  hope that, when you look at this photograph, you feel the same as I.

I hope you had great Sunday.  Thank you for looking.  See you tomorrow.

Sunday's Friends

Copyright AJ Horton

Today is Sunday.  I've had a long day.  It's late as I write this.  And as I look for an appropriate picture that lets you know how I feel about Sundays, I come across this gem.  Sundays are special days and they require special feelings, special events.   As I look at this photo of my friends I am taken back to a special, although cold,  day in northern North Carolina when we joined a group for a paddle down the (I believe) Roanoke River.  We paddled, we talked, we laughed - an all around great day.  Isn't that what Sundays are about - getting together with like minded people and celebrating  the joys of this earth and of our creator?   This is my "church".  I don't need a building.  I need the creation.  I need the earth, the sky, the trees, the water, the family, the friends.   This is where I feel closest to my creator.  I believe this particular photo was taken on a Saturday - but it was MY Sunday, MY most grateful day of the week.

Thanks for looking.  Hope you had a great Sunday celebration.  See you tomorrow.
