Friday's Great Blue Heron 11-04-16

Copyright 2016 AJ Horton

Hello and happy Friday.  I hope you're in the mood for fishing today.  Well, if you're not, my little friend here, the Great Blue Heron, is surely in the mood.  Fishing for me is relaxing, entertaining and social.  I don't have to be good at fishing.  For the Great Blue Heron, fishing is vital to survival.  That is pretty stressful for them I imagine.  I like to eat fish but I'm glad my life doesn't depend on me being able to catch a fish.

I hope you had a good Friday.  Thank you for looking.  See you tomorrow.

Copyright 2016 AJ Horton
Hello and happy Wednesday.  Are you searching for something?  My Great Blue Heron friend seems to be searching for something.  He's probably searching for food.  You and I are probably searching for something else - like success, directions, the bathroom, or ..... Friday!!  Well, it's Hump Day, so we're closer to Friday today than yesterday - ha.

I hope you found what you were looking for this Wednesday.  Thank you for looking.  See you tomorrow.

Tuesday's Treat 06-28-16

Copyright 2016 AJ Horton
Hello and happy Tuesday.  So, I know I always seem to have a lot of work to do.  I never seem to get all the work done.  Sometimes I feel guilty when I do something just for me, but, the other day, I just had to go kayaking, if only for a little while.  I was informed that we hadn't been kayaking since the first of this year.  I think that's a disgrace and we must make time for more kayaking adventures!   After all, look what I saw!!

I love, love, love Great Blue Herons!  I consider them one of my good luck charms.  I was finishing my kayaking adventure and, as I turned the corner to home, I saw him.  He was stalking something and I stopped, grabbed by camera, and sat as still as I could in my kayak.  You can imagine how giddy I became as I snapped away when he gathered his treat!  I feel as though I got a treat, too.  And now, I'm showing off my treat to you.  Yay.

I hope you had a terrific Tuesday.  Thank you for looking.  I hope you enjoyed all your treats.  See you tomorrow.

Hello and happy Tuesday.  Like this Great Blue Heron, this day just flew by for me.  There were a few "rocks" along the way, but they were overcome.

I hope you had a terrific "fly by" Tuesday.  Thank you for looking.  See you tomorrow.

Headless Wednesday 01-27-16

Hello and happy Wednesday.  I hope you didn't lose your head today like the Great Blue Heron did!  Some days are like that though,  But we made it through and are on the downhill slide to Friday.  We just have to get through Thursday first.  We can do it.  I have faith.

I hope you did have a wonderful Wednesday.  Thank you for looking.  Keep your head!  See you tomorrow.

Tangled Up In Monday 01-25-16

Copyright 2015 AJ Horton
Hello and happy Monday.   I hope you had a good weekend.  My little friend here seems to be all tied up in the limbs.  Mondays are like that for me.  I get all tied up in several things at once and have to "untangle" from those things.   I just have to find a way to turn all those problems into opportunities.  I'm sure the Great Blue Heron sees them as opportunities too.  ;)

I hope you were able to turn all of your tangles into opportunities today and had a marvelous Monday.  Thank you for looking.  See you tomorrow.

I hope you had a wonderful "fly-by" Thursday.  Thank you for looking.  See you tomorrow.

Tuesday Takes Flight 12-08-15

Copyright 2015 AJ Horton
Hello and happy Tuesday.  On this Tuesday, my favorite bird, the Great Blue Heron has taken flight and enjoys soaring gracefully overhead.  This day did not pass as gracefully, but I made it through.  Now, I can remember when I took this photo and enjoy the feeling I had when I took it.  I am also glad he didn't drop a present on my head.  Ha

I hope your Tuesday went by gracefully.  Thank you for looking.  See you tomorrow.

Happy Great Blue Heron Thursday 11-05-15

Copyright AJ Horton
Hello and happy Thursday.  It's been a long time since I've shown you one of my favorite birds.  Of course, I love all birds, but, for some reason, the Great Blue Heron is special.   I love the color, I love watching him fish; I love seeing him catch a fish; I love hearing the squawk and seeing him fly.  And I love photographing herons.   The heron is also a great fan of the water - obviously.  And, since I also love the water, well, it just makes sense that it's my favorite bird.

I hope you had a Great Blue Heron of a Thursday.  I thank you for looking.  See you tomorrow.

Sunday's Lookout

Copyright AJ Horton

Happy Sunday.  While you're up and about, this guy is on the lookout.  He's very observant and has a 360 degree view.  And he's paying attention even when you're not.  Kind of like God, but not.  This guy doesn't really care about you like God does.  This guy is only looking out for himself and probably for his mother for his food.  Soon he will grow up and learn to work for his own food and build his own nest.  Then, he will leave home.  Maybe he will visit with his family often - maybe on Sundays - or maybe he'll move too far away to visit often.  That's just how it goes in families.  The kids are born, you work for them, with them, you try to help them learn everything they need to grow up into loving, responsible, hard working adults and then they leave home.  Just like they're supposed to.  And you're glad when they move out. You suddenly have more time, more money and less stress.  But you, you're always going to be on the lookout for them, worry about them, love them.  They may or may not appreciate anything you've done for them along the way.  They may not even bother to say thank you when you stop everything you're doing to help them out.  But you know.  You go right ahead and feel good about all that you've done to help.  You deserve a pat on the back.  Give it to yourself.  You'll still continue your lookout, offer an ear, a shoulder or help when needed if you can - 'cause that's what you do when you're a parent or grandparent.

I hope you've had a great Sunday.  Thanks for looking.  Keep a lookout and I'll see you tomorrow.

Friday's Catch of the Day!

Copyright AJ Horton

Most times it helps to be in the right place at the right time.  Some times that happens because of planning and preparation.  Sometimes it's just pure luck, or good fortune.  I guess it could be a matter of all three with this photo.  I know as I was taking pictures of this I was sitting in my kayak going "please, please, please be on the right camera settings," and "please, no motor boats come by and rock me"!   And so it was!  I was pleased.  Someone had sushi for dinner.   I just love Great Blue Herons.  They are very graceful birds.  When they fish, they stand very still for long periods of time, then gently wade toward their prey, then wham - they go for it!  They are so fast at that one moment, it's amazing!  I have watched them fish many times and only caught their catch on camera once or twice.  I also have only seen them eat where they catch - never have I seen them transport the catch.  So this was another wonderful surprise when I saw her pick up this fish from her nest.  I didn't think they ate in bed.  But, she has little ones now, so there must be an occasional exception.

I hope you have a wonderful Friday, whether you have fried fish, baked, broiled or grilled fish; whether you have sushi, sashimi or no fish at all.  Just have a great Friday and know that there's a wonderful weekend ahead.

Thanks for looking.  See you tomorrow.

Thursday's Home Invasion

Copyright AJ Horton

On Tuesday I was able to go kayaking on Lake Wylie for a while. I live in what I consider a very safe neighborhood so while I was away from home I felt like my home was safe.  I found out that not everyone is as fortunate.  I mean, imagine when that poor osprey comes back and finds out his home has been invaded - or even stolen - by a great blue heron!!!  And, the osprey must have really needed that nest because it was built just for him or her and the family.  I guess they have their own "Habitat for Osprey", or maybe even Birds of Prey.  But, the Great Blue Heron is not a "Bird of Prey", so will it be in for a fight when the Osprey comes back?  Is it just keeping the nest warm?  Or, is it on the lookout while his friend robs the place?  I don't know - he looks pretty comfortable.  Maybe the Osprey's not coming back?  Should we start some kind of "conspiracy theory"?  HMMMM.  Ahhhh, the wonder of it all.

There's always something to think about going on in my head.  What about you?  I hope you had a good Thursday.  Get prepared.  Friday's almost here.

Thank you for looking.  See you tomorrow.
