Saturday's Gift of Rose 12-26-15

Hello and happy Saturday.  Today is an easy day.  I didn't have anywhere I had to go or anything I had to do - except a little cleaning, cooking and walking the dogs (the usual).  Sometimes, when you're doing "the usual" something unusual happens - like seeing this beautiful rose.  It was during the morning walk with the pups and at the end of the street that this was seen.  Recent heavy rains, and a thunderstorm, have kept us from walking this far for the last few days.  This morning was very foggy and humid, but not raining so we took our usual long walk and this was our reward!  I love presents and I made this photo as a gift.  Now, I guess one could say that I am "re-gifting" to you.
I believe a rose it like life - it is beautiful, and there are thorns/obstacles/storms that we must encounter, endure and overcome in order to fully appreciate that beauty.

Wednesday's Rose

Wednesday, lucky Wednesday.  You made it through half the week, only two more days to go.  According to Wikipedia, there was a group of people in 1942-43 called the White Rose.  They were a group of students from the University of Munich, who, along with their philosophy professor, called for the active opposition of Adolf Hitler's regime.  The six most recognized students of this non-violent, intellectual resistance group were arrested by the Gestapo, tried for treason and beheaded in 1943.   They are now honored in Germany.  Whoa!  Didn't expect that when you saw a picture of a white rose on my blog, did you?  I didn't either.  I was just looking up the meaning of the white rose and found the Wikipedia article first.  Interesting.

Another check of the Internet for the white rose did find what I was looking for.... that the white rose stands for "marriage, spirituality and new starts".  (from the proflowers.com website)  White roses stand for purity and ceremony.  And, for me, love.  Always love.

Friday's Rose

Roses are some of the best flowers out there - in my opinion.  They seem to be just like people; they are pretty and fragrant and as they mature, they open into a beautiful flower.  They also have thorns and, well, don't we all each have a little thorny side to us?

Saturday Springlike thoughts

It's Saturday!!  We worked all week for this.  And here it is a gorgeously sunny day.  Very soon the roses will be in bloom and we won't have to buy the greenhouse ones.  I love real yard grown roses.  They smell so good.  When you buy ones from a greenhouse, like the ones above, although they are very pretty, they just don't have that wonderful scent.  And when spring is here even the air seems sweeter.  I don't know why that is, maybe it's all in my head, but the air is just, well, better.  Of course there is that pollen stuff and I have many allergies, but that doesn't stop me from enjoying the beauty, the warmth, the roses, the extra daylight.  

Oh, that reminds me, remember to set your clocks forward one hour before you go to sleep tonight.  Yippee!  I hope you had a great Saturday.  Remember to stop and smell the roses.  Thanks for looking.  See you tomorrow.

Happy Valentine's Eve on Friday the 13th

On the eve of Valentine's Day, I'd like to send you all a single rose.   Roses are wonderful flowers.  They smell good and look good.  However, there are thorns on those roses so be careful not to hurt yourself.  But then again, there is always a little pain with anything really good.   And I'm told if you have rose bushes, you should prune them on Valentine's Day so they grow nicely during the year.  I hope you're having a good Valentine's Eve.  Thanks for looking.  See you tomorrow.
