Friday's Duck 09-02-16

Hello and happy Friday.  I live in the Great U.S. of America in the Southeast, so today the remnants of Hurricane Hermine - now called Tropical Storm Hermine - are moving through my area toward the Atlantic Ocean.  While I am glad that I am safe and dry inside as the rain falls and the wind blows, I am equally glad that the Muscovy Ducks are out and about and seem safe as well.  Two of them came by this morning to say Hi when the rain was slow and steady.  I'm sure they took shelter when the downpours came and the wind gusts arrived.  I know the Muscovy Ducks are ugly but I do enjoy their presence and I actually like looking at them.  It is as my mother would say, "They're so ugly they're cute."  I totally agree!

I hope you were able to stay nice and dry this Friday.  Thank you for looking.  See you tomorrow.

Wednesday's Muscovy Duck 08-24-16

Hello and happy Wednesday.  When I was kayaking last Sunday, I went past one of my favorite subjects - the Muscovy Duck. This one appears to be lying on the nest, but left soon after we paddled by.  That's ok, because I already obtained my photograph.  When I saw my first Muscovy Duck I thought it was one ugly duck! The more I see them, the more I just enjoy looking at them.  They  are huge and somewhat majestic and when they fly with their huge wings they make a lot of noise.  I am grateful that I get to see them often.

I hope you were able to see something you enjoy today.  Thank you for looking.  See you tomorrow.

Muscovy Monday 08-01-16

Hello and happy Monday.  Welcome to my portrait of a Muscovy Duck.  This one was in my yard yesterday after a big storm.  I was glad to see him.  He or she seems to be sporting a nice Pompadour hairstyle.  I like it!  I didn't realize this until I read the site that I'm about to give you that the Muscovy Ducks eat mosquitoes!  I want this one and all her friends to come around all the time.  You can read more about this fascinating duck at:  http://countrysidenetwork.com/daily/poultry/poultry-poultry/breed-spotlight-muscovy-duck/.

I hope you've had a fascinating Monday.  Thank you for looking.  See you tomorrow.

Friday's Visiting Muscovy 07-08-16

Hello and happy Friday.  The other day I was feeding the fish at our little pond when all of a sudden, I hear the thunderous flapping of the wings of a big bird.  This guy or gal, the Muscovy Duck, seems much bigger in flight than on the pond.  His wings must be very heavy by the way they sound and, he doesn't fly very high or far.  I'm glad he chose the little pond to visit.  I hadn't seen him for a good while and I wondered about his safety.  His mate was not with him on this trip and I usually see them together.  I guess she had other things to do.  I'm just grateful I had this surprise visit.

Tuesday Wild Life 01-05-16

Copyright 20016 AJ Horton

Hello and happy Tuesday.  Today I have my portrait of  one of the Muscovy Ducks that I enjoyed photographing the other day.  I hope this recent cold weather hasn't sent him packing more south.  I have another quote from my coloring book that fits this guy and it goes, "Those who wish to pet and baby wild animals 'love' them.  But those who respect their natures and wish to let them live normal lives, love them more."  (Edwin Way Teale)

Edwin Way Teale was an American naturalist, photographer and Pulitzer Prize winning writer.  He sounds like my kind of person.

I hope you had a terrific Tuesday.  Maybe you were lucky enough to enjoy viewing wildlife.  That would have been so cool.  Thanks for looking.  See you tomorrow.

Happy New Year Friday 1-1-16

Hello and happy Friday.  Also, Happy New Year!!  I knew that today, on the first day of the year, that my blog had to have something to do with kayaks, water and wildlife.  Well, I must be living right!  I wanted to go kayaking today but it started getting late and colder, so we had to scrap that idea.  As I was wandering around the yard, I saw these Muscovy Ducks making an entrance near my kayaks.  Yay.  Now I had everything I wanted to include in my first photo of the year.  Now only 364 days to go.

This is the first day I had ever seen Muscovy Ducks in my yard or in my neighborhood.  Usually I see Canada Geese, so this was indeed a welcome surprise.  My front yard is somewhat smaller today thanks to many recent, heavy rains so that, once these guys stepped out of the water, they were close to my kayaks and me.  In fact, before they left the yard, they came less than three feet away from me.  The New Year has been very good to me so far.

I hope you've had a great New Year's Day.  Thank you for looking.  See you tomorrow.
