Hula Girl Tree Wednesday 12-23-15

Copyright AJ Horton
Hello and happy Wednesday.  Yesterday, I showed you a tree hanging on the edge of a mountain on the Blue Ridge Parkway in North Carolina. Today, I want to take a more fun approach and show you a Hula Girl Tree that I found near Edisto Island in South Carolina.  There are times when a tree reminds someone of something and that "someone" just has to make it right.  In this case, I have to say I applaud the effort.  I am grateful someone took the time and expense and braved the terrain to make this fanciful hula girl happen because I surely enjoyed seeing this from the road.

The next time you take a trip to Edisto, SC, see if this Hula Girl Tree is still there.  It can be seen from the main road and we actually saw it as we were leaving the island on the right hand side.

I hope you had a wonderful Wednesday.  Thank you for looking.  See you tomorrow.

Friday's Gem

Copyright AJ Horton

Happy Friday.  Today as we found ourselves in the town of North, South Carolina we saw a little brown sign that said "Edisto River Access Area".  And so, a little side trip was in order.   And look at what a gem we found!  This is the North Fork of the Edisto River.  The Edisto River is a meandering 250 miles of free flowing blackwater and is one of the longest in North America.  It was named after the Edisto Indians who were the river shores first inhabitants.  I haven't kayaked this portion of the Edisto, yet.  Soon, though.

I hope you had a great Friday.  Hopefully you had a good adventure today.  Thanks for looking.  See you tomorrow.

Friday's Platform

Copyright AJ Horton

When I look at this eagle I think of my grandmother, and, as my Grandma used to say he may not "have a pot to piss in or a window to throw it out of" (yep, you know you're poor if that's your scenario), but this guy has a platform to sit upon.  And, it looks like his environment doesn't require a pot or a window.  I guess it's a good thing his platform isn't what we call a "lazy Susan".  Since it looks like it's windy he'd just sit on that thing and go around and around.  That would make him a dizzy bird!  ha

I took this guy's photo while kayaking at Edisto Island, SC.  I liked that he was happy to sit for a while.  You just gotta love the bald eagle - our country's national bird.  The males and females look very much alike, with the only difference being the female is larger than the male.  Northern bald eagles, both male and female, are much bigger than southern ones.  I've also read that bald eagles are only found in North America.

According to www.baldeagleinfo.com, bald eagles "sit at the top of the food chain, making them more vulnerable to toxic chemicals in the environment".  Just one more reason for us to protect our precious land and water.

I hope you enjoyed your Friday.  Maybe you even saw an eagle along your way.  I hope you have a wonderful, fun filled weekend.  Enjoy yourself and remember to take care of yourself and your environment.  Thank you for looking.  See you tomorrow.
